Feature Article - How to find out if a Business Opportunity is Legitimate

The New Year is a common time for people to think about starting their own internet business and despite the
global recession, 2009 will be a year where many people start a new internet business.
One concern that many people have when using the Internet to research business opportunities is determining if a
business is legitimate or not. In this article we will talk about a few things you can do to determine if a
business is a legitimate to help ease your mind if you decide to do business with them.
1. Legitimate businesses will have an email address, physical address and a business phone number. This is
especially true today for Internet business opportunities.
If you can pick up the phone and contact them this is a good sign. It does not have to prove they are
not a legitimate business, however today most businesses do have a way that they can be contacted if they are.
2. In many areas there are local associations that complaints can be filed with. For example the
Better Business Bureau is a good place to check if you live in the United States.
Regardless of where you live you can check with your state attorney general or the local consumer affairs
office to see if they have any complaints filed against them.
3. You can check if the business is a member of any professional association. You can contact the
association directly. Many off line and online businesses are involved in various professional
associations and this is easy to verify.
4. You can search for the name of the business or the business owner on Google. If people have had
problems with a business opportunity in the past you should be able to find their comments or reviews.
Bear in mind that most businesses may have some negative feedback as it is rare to find an opportunity that
makes everyone happy!
5. Use discussion forums to ask about a business. Many business opportunities are well known
within the Internet marketing world. You can join a discussion forum on the Internet for free and then begin to do some research.
You might see specific information posted online about a business you are checking out. You can also post a question about a specific business and find out if it is legitimate that way.
You will find the members in a discussion forum are some the most helpful people online and also the most truthful.
Sadly there are many businesses that are not legitimate and are looking to scam you. Therefore do your due
diligence before you spend any money if you have doubts about them.
This is smart and necessary in today's worldwide economy. These five tips should give you a few ideas on
how you can find out if the business is legitimate or not.

Narrowing down a broad theme into a smaller niche is a great way to make money and have fun too. This is
especially true if you can find something to sell in an area that you have an interest in or a passion for.
4. Blogging is a good choice if you are good at or enjoying writing. You can also monetize your blog and
make money selling advertising on it as your traffic increases.
One easy way to get started with blogging is to create your blog using Blogger.com.com for free.
Blogger is a free blogging platform owned by Google and it is very easy to monetize your blog with
Google AdSense and get paid every time a visitor clicks on an ad.
5. Selling private label rights products is a fast way to jumpstart an Internet business. One of
the main benefits is that the product idea has already been thought through and created for you.
It helps if you can make some of your own customizations to the product. Another great thing about
selling PLR products is that all the profits are yours to keep.
