7 Reasons I Love Being an Affiliate Marketer

The majority of people don't love their job, and I fell into that category myself just a few years ago.

Today I was thinking about how great it was to be a work from home affiliate marketer and how lucky I am not to have to drag myself into an office to do a job that I don't particularly enjoy.

So I have put together a few reasons why I LOVE working from home full time as an affiliate marketer. Hopefully this will inspire you if you are aiming to start or grow your own home business.

1) You don't have to get up too early in the morning - not everyone is a morning person and when I worked full time in an office I found it a struggle to jump out of bed at 7am, especially in the cold dark months of winter. Now that I work for myself I can set the alarm just that little bit later and if I don't feel like getting up, there is always the option of the snooze button.

2) You can work ANYWHERE - as long as you have a wireless internet connection and a laptop you can work wherever you like. I can work in my home office, I can work on the sofa while watching a movie, I can work outside in the garden when the weather is warm (not often here in Scotland) or I can take myself on an "extra vacation" and do a little bit of work each day.

3) You are the BOSS - it is great to be the boss of yourself, rather than have to report to someone else. In my time I have had one or two evil bosses (no names mentioned here). Now if I want to go on vacation, take some time off for an appointment or do the work I enjoy the most rather than the work someone else wants me to do, I can just ask myself (and "yes" is usually the answer!).

4) You Get Fast Visible RESULTS - when you work for a large company it is often difficult to see the direct results of your work. In my work as an affiliate marketer I often see the results of my work the following week or even the following day. A change to my website, or a promotion can result in new signups and sales, which spurs me on and motivates me to do more of the same.

5) You Earn Money while Asleep or on Vacation - the beauty of having websites is that they work while you are asleep, out socializing, on vacation, or when you just don't feel like working. I love logging in in the morning to see these commission emails. I also love coming back from vacation to find that I have made the same amount of sales while I have been sunning myself on a beach.

6) No Worrying about Stock, Inventory or Payment Processing - with affiliate marketing you just have to promote a product using your special affiliate link. You don't need to worry about stocking products, accepting payments, processing credit cards or supporting customers. This is all done by the vendor and you'll often receive 50% commissions for your efforts!

7) You Can do Something you ENJOY - I am very lucky that I love my job. Most of the time when I sit down to do some work, I am looking forward to it and I have fun while I am doing it. There are affiliate products in every niche market that you can imagine, so it is easy to find a subject that you enjoy and turn this into a profitable business.

SFI and my President's Club Interview

If you are looking to start a free or low cost home business then SFI is a good choice. Not only is it free to join, but the site has excellent training to help you get started making money on the internet.

You can join SFI for FREE here.

I have been a member of SFI since 2004. It was the very first online business opportunity that I joined and has taught me a lot. I also receive a nice monthly check from them and I am usually listed in the Top Ten Sponsors on the SFI leader board.

Last year I became a member of the SFI Presidents Club for top sponsors and sellers. Unfortunately it doesn't come with a free cruise to Hawaii but if you are a member of SFI you can read my interview by clicking on the Leaderboard link and then clicking on the President's Club.

If you are not a member of SFI I have pasted my interview below for you to read.

SFI President's Club Interview - Suzanne Morrison

Q) Is this your first venture into a business of your own? If not, what type of business were you involved with previously?
SFI was my very first venture into a business of my own. I joined SFI in 2004.

Q) What were your initial goals when you joined SFI? How have those goals changed since you joined?
My initial goals were to make a bit of extra income every month and eventually to earn enough to work from home full time for myself. I have now achieved both of these goals and I currently earn a full time income from home from a combination of SFI and some other online businesses.

Q) What SFI product(s) have you most concentrated on selling? Why?
I have focused on the opportunity rather than the products. When I started SFI I was looking for ways to create extra income so it made sense to me to promote this opportunity to other people who were searching for online income opportunities.

Q) Without giving way your secrets, what two marketing strategies do you feel are most effective (i.e. offline ads and flyers, pay-per-clicks, personal Website, banner ads, autoresponders, etc.)? Why?
I promote SFI primarily through my home business website and have the most success with a combination of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and autoresponders. My site has an online newsletter and I promote SFI to my subscribers both in the newsletter itself and also by promoting SFI’s $295 value online income course on my newsletter bonus page. I also promote SFI throughout this website using banners, text links, reviews and blog posts.

Q) What is the single most important step to making a sale that you would share with a new SFI affiliate?
I would encourage new affiliates to spend some time reading about SFI, going through the SFI training and learning about the SFI products before they start to promote anything. It is almost impossible to promote a product that you don’t understand so taking this extra time to get up to speed can make a big difference to your success.

Q) What technologies (i.e. cell phone, autoresponders, software, etc.) do you consider most vital for your SFI business?
The technologies that I find most vital are autoresponders and email. I always send a welcome email to my new affiliates and use email to answer all their questions. In addition to this I provide training for my affiliates using autoresponders.

Q) List the following traits in order of importance to your business: enthusiasm, persistence, knowledge, and communication skills.
I would put enthusiasm first, Without enthusiasm how can you sell something to your prospects? It is difficult to sell something that you are not enthusiastic about.

Secondly I would say persistence. A high percentage of online businesses fail. The main reason for this is that people expect instant gratification. They want to be rewarded in a few days or a few weeks with little or no effort. The people who succeed are the people who are persistent.

Thirdly I would say communication skills. You will be much more successful if you can motivate and help your team grow their own income.

Finally, knowledge is also very important but this is something that you can build on as you go along. When I started SFI I had no experience of online business, but I didn’t let this stop me.

Q) How important is following-up with new affiliates to your success?
Very important. I always contact my affiliates immediately after they have signed up to offer them my help and support. I think it is important to let your affiliates know who you are so that they can ask you questions when they need help.

Q) How do you handle rejections?
I see rejections as part of everyday business. Not everyone is going to be interested in the opportunities that you are offering so I expect rejections and don’t let them phase me.

Q) What has been your biggest motivation for making your SFI business a success?
I want to continue enjoying the freedom of being my own boss and working from home and hope never to have to go back to working for someone else.

Q) What has been your biggest obstacle in building your SFI business?
There are a large number of people who expect instant profits or who expect to achieve success with little or no effort. I try to re-educate these people and assist them, but at the end of the day people need to be willing to put in the work to reap the rewards.

Q) How does it feel to join the top movers and shakers in SFI?
It feels fantastic. I enjoyed reading the interviews from the members of the President’s Club when I joined SFI myself and I found them very motivational so I hope that my own interview can help to inspire people who are just starting with SFI.

Q) Where do you want your SFI business to be in a year from now?
I would like to continue to grow my business and my team and I would like to help more of my team members become successful themselves and become team leaders

A Home Business or a Work from Home Job? What's the Difference?

Many people want to make money from home and the internet is making that goal much easier to achieve. Before you start your research one thing that you should try and understand is the difference between a home business and a work from home job.

Now, let's take a look at a couple of the differences between home businesses and work at home jobs and how they could affect whether you make money or not.

People that are entrepreneurial by nature tend to do better running their own home business. They enjoy being their own boss and love the challenge of building something from the ground up. Having a business of your own from home is a great way to make money, however you have no guarantees of a paycheck on a steady basis.

This means that it is advisable to have some money saved or alternatively you may want to continue to work full time or part time while you work on your own business. Today telecommuting makes it possible for people to work from home for companies without actually going into an office to do it.

For example websites such as match employers with employees who want to stay home and work. This is just one form of a work from home job that you can find. Other things you can do that are really more along the lines of a job to include data entry, typing at home, writing articles for people, creating graphics, answering the phone, and so on. You are not really building a business yet you are providing a skill that people will pay you for.

There are advantages to both having your own home business and a work from home job and it is worth baring these in mind when you make the decision whether to start a home business or a work from home job. The choice is strictly up to you!

Visit my legitimate business opportunities page for ideas on how to start a home business or a work from home job.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Working from Home

Are you considering taking the plunge and working from home full time?

At the time of writing this I have been working from home full time for just over one year. Prior to that I spent 12 years working full time for a large company. Before I decided to work from home full time I had to consider carefully why I wanted to do this and what the advantages and disadvantages were going to be. Here are what I see as the main positives and negatives, based on my experience from both sides of the fence.

Disadvantages of Working from Home

(1) Lonelyness - if you are a people person like me, one thing you will probably miss most when you make the transition from full time work to working from home is contact with other people. At first I missed having people to talk to all the time and going for coffee and a chat each day with my coworkers. If you are working alone from home you just need to be sure to have some contact with others. You could do this by meeting people for a quick lunch, going to the gym during the day, arranging to meet friends more often in the evening, partnering with other people for certain parts of your business or joining a club.

(2) No Perks or Benefits - you may be used to having benefits such as medical insurance, bonuses, pension contributions and a car allowance. When you begin working for yourself from home full time you will lose these perks and benefits. For this reason you need to make sure that you are able to earn enough money to cover your existing salary and benefits if you need to.

(3) Never ending Workload and responsibility - as the owner of your own work from home business it may sometimes seem like the work is never ending. It is much easier for your working day to flow over into the evening and you could find yourself working much longer hours, especially in the beginning when you are struggling to make enough money. If something isn't working or if a crisis arises then you have the responsibility for fixing the problem.

Advantages of Working from Home

(1) Freedom - freedom is one of the biggest advantages of working for yourself. You can work the hours that you want to work rather than being in an office 9 till 5 every day. If you are not a morning person you can always have a long lie each day and start work a little later. If you need to go to an appointment in the middle of the day you don't need to ask the boss. If you want to spend time with the kids when they get home from school you can do this. If it is nice weather outside you can go out and sit in the garden for a while or even do some work outside... and so the list goes on!

(2) Earning Potential - as an employee you are usually constrained by grades and salary brackets. Your pay rises are normally decided by your boss and may be subject to budgets and sometimes company cutbacks. As the owner of your own business you have a huge potential to make a lot more money than you did as an employee and you can choose to pay yourself as much of this as you desire.

(3) Job satisfaction - when you are your own boss you can decide what work to do yourself and what to outsource. For example, if you don't enjoy doing the financial side of things you can outsource this. You can keep the work that you enjoy most for yourself and pay others to do the work that you enjoy the least. As an employee of a company you won't always have this luxury.

These are just some of the advantages and disadvantages of working from home. It certainly pays to consider these and other potential pros and cons before taking such a big step in life.

What is a Data Entry Job?

What is a Data Entry Job? This is a question that a lot of online opportunity seekers ask.

A data entry job is one of the easiest ways for people to make money from home in their spare time and usually involves filling in forms or writing documents and earning a payment or commission.

Working at home doing data entry mean one of two things. It can either involve working for someone as a virtual assistant, helping with typing up documents and such like or purchasing access to a database of companies that hire data entry workers.

Here are some ideas on how you can find a legitimate data entry job that you can do from home.

1. has a specific category for data entry jobs. There are employers looking for employees to do various things such as data entry, customer service, claims processing, typing, and other things. Many data entry jobs can be done regardless of where in the world you live.

2. provides online classified ads for various jobs. You can sort these by various characteristics including the locaton and title of the job. You may be able to find data entry jobs there that would suit your requirements and that of the employer as well.

3. There are plenty work at home websites on the internet which can also help you to find the right data entry job. Again we would caution you on paying to work for someone, but do expect to pay for information if you choose to buy it.

Data entry clerks should be able to type quickly, accurately, and be very detail oriented persons. You should also be the type of person that doesn't mind sitting in front of a computer for long periods of time.

Many people think that sounds like something they would like to do. Think carefully before you start looking for a data entry job. Is this something that you will enjoy doing and do you feel you can persevere with it to make money.

There are really lots of legitimate home business data entry clerk jobs available and you just need to know where to look. Hopefully this has given you the answer to the question "what is a data entry job?" and given you a few ideas to get started.

Stay at Home Moms Business Opportunity

There is no more noble profession than being a mom. Unfortunately in today's economy having more than one income is necessary. For this reason more mothers are looking for a stay at home business opportunity that allows them to manage their time and also make money.

Here is a possible opportunity that would allow you to work part-time at home as a mom and continue to be a full-time success in that fantastic career.

You should consider starting an Internet business of your own. The great thing about the Internet is it allows you to control your schedule so you can be there for your kids when you need to be.

There are many different ways to make money on the Internet. One of the most common ways that mothers are making money on the Internet today is to start their own affiliate marketing business.

As an affiliate marketer you get paid to sell other people's products, therefore you have a broad range of possible products to choose from.

Depending on the age of your kid, you might want to start an affiliate marketing business around the theme of babies, toddlers, kids, teenagers, or even college kids. You will be able to find products to sell and every one of these niches.

One thing that is beneficial about being an affiliate marketer is you never have to handle the product that you actually sell. You don't even have to collect the money. All of this is done for you by the affiliate merchant.

Your job is to market the affiliate product and sell it. This creates an excellent opportunity for moms to start their own home businesses because they can focus on being Internet marketers and not many of the other things that go with being a business owner in many instances.

When you have an Internet business it is working 24 hours a day even though you are not. It's more than possible to create a full-time income working part-time hours online.

You may find that you work best in the morning while before your kids get up. Some moms get more work done when the kids are off to school. And yet others are night owls and work best after everyone has gone to bed.

It really doesn't matter because as we say the Internet is open 24 hours a day and you are able to control your own schedule, when you have your own home business. The key is that on a part-time business finding the right stay at home moms business opportunity can equal full-time success for you.

Avoiding Internet Scam Work from Home

Are all work from home jobs scams? This is a question that many people ask every day when searching for a legitimate work from home opportunity. Fortunately the answer is "no". Most work from home jobs are not scams. Read on to learn how you can avoid internet scam work from home.

The best way to avoid internet and affiliate marketing scams is to learn about the type of scams that are possible on the Net. The saying, "Forewarned is forearmed" is perfectly applicable here. Only when you know what you should expect you would be able to avoid the pitfalls involved. Therefore, education on what types of scams have been identified until present is very important.

You Need To Play It Safe To Avoid Internet Marketing & Work from Home Scams

For best results, when you are in doubt about an affiliate program do not take the offer up. Most of us ignore the warnings that come from within us. All of us have an inner radar system that warns us loud and clear when something is just not right. However, most people learn to suppress this warning signal often with disastrous results. Therefore, the first thing is to listen your gut feeling. If you get "that feeling" drop the offer.

To be doubly sure, go for only those affiliate programs and business opportunities which have been recommended by close friends (who have already tried and tested it) or affiliates which have been around for at least five year and gained a positive reputation in the market.

Stick with the big named Marketers as besides security, these affiliate programs are likely to give you the best terms you could get, plus a free website and some tools.

The Most Popular Affiliate Marketing Scams

1. Greed is the main helper of affiliate marketing scams. Greed and need make a person blind to reason and this is how most affiliate scams operate. They paint a rosy picture where they make earning money look like child’s play. They make false claims about amazing sums of money which make you feel greedy for the income. In that moment you got that feeling, you are captured by the affiliate marketing scam. In case you do think the affiliate which promises you riches overnight is genuine, just run a search on the Internet and see whether this company is registered with BBB (Better Business Bureau); if not, do not trust it.

2. Desperation is the next helper for the fraudulent Marketer. Are you in need of cash urgently? Do you want continuous streams of income without any effort? Do you want to quit your job and work from home? These are the questions to which each one of us have positive answers. When you are down on cash or suffocated by your job, be very careful on what advertisement you believe and choose to try. It is possible you are stepping into a trap of affiliate marketing scams which instead of giving you money, would demand whatever little money you have remaining on you.

3. Money begets money. Most of us believe in this adage and we feel that if the investment has good prospects, you should make a payment. However, some scams imply that if you want a large payout you need to invest a lot. The problem is that the moment you make an investment, they disappear. Do not pay any large sum of money on the Internet in the hope you will get more. In fact, qualitative affiliate programs would enroll you without any payment, while they would host your website for free and also provide you the latest tools to market the product.

If you are careful and do your research you will be able to choose only the good affiliate programs that are out there and sidestep the affiliate marketing scams of which there are plenty.

Do you Suffer from Information Overload?

Do you ever suffer from information overload? Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed at that overstuffed inbox, or feel like you will never know enough to succeed in your internet marketing or home business? Every day you are bombarded with new pieces of information, emails to read and answer, new reports and e-books to download, courses to purchase, training to go through, communication for affiliate programs you have joined, forum posts to read or the next “guru” telling you that you have to buy their product.

If this is a problem for you, you are not alone! It is very common for people to feel overwhelmed when they try to start their own internet business or get involved in internet marketing to make some extra money online. I felt the same way when I started out over three years ago. The good news is that this feeling will lessen over time. Now and then I still feel that old familiar feeling of information overload sinking in, but it certainly not as severe as it was when I first started out.

Here are some tips to help you get on your way to feeling like a normal person again…

(1) Accept that you will never know everything. You don’t need to know everything about internet marketing and it is unlikely that you ever will. Your knowledge will increase over time naturally, but don’t beat yourself up about your lack of knowledge. Take a deep breath and don’t let yourself feel overwhelmed or in a panic about this.

(2) Keep your Email Organised. This is extremely important. In the information age we are bombarded by emails. Some emails are for information only and others are from people who often expect an immediate reply. The best thing to do here is to create folders in your email program for different types of emails. For example I have folders for receipts, invoices, download links, affiliate program communications, login information etc. When you are reading your email you can file emails into the appropriate folder instead of feeling the need to read them instantly. For example you may have just joined an affiliate program and they are sending you tips by email. You may find this information useful, but you are not ready for all these tips yet. If this is the case just file these emails in a folder and study them at a point in the future when you are ready.

(3) Keep a To-Do list. It is always helpful to put together some sort of plan or “to-do” list. I have a master list with everything that I want to do in the long term and I also have a list of things that I would like to do in the near future e.g. for the next week or fortnight. If I think of something new, which is not urgent I add it to my master list rather than my short term list. This helps to prevent me from becoming distracted and keeps me focused on the things that are immediately important.

(4) Learn to use the Unsubscribe Link. This sounds very obvious, but how many newsletters or ezines are you subscribed to? Are you getting value from them? Do you have the time to read them? If the answer to either of these questions is no, then click on that unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email!

(5) Consider Outsourcing. It’s not possible to be an expert in everything. For example, I am good at building and updating websites, but I am useless at creating graphics and using photo or graphic editing software. Rather than spend hours trying to learn these skills I pay someone to create graphics for my site. Are you ready to work full time from home?

Happy new year to everyone! It's been a while since I posted on this blog. If you want to know what I was up to in December have a look at my Plug-In Profit Site Blog

I decided to make a New Year's resolution to blog more frequently and write more articles. Given that I wrote less than 10 articles last year and haven't posted to this blog since November that shouldn't be hard to beat!

So I'm going to start off with my first article of the year...

Are you Ready to Work Full Time From Home?

It’s now almost two years since I started dabbling on the internet, trying to make money online. At that time it was a bit of an experiment, kind of like a hobby - something that I did partly for the enjoyment and partly in the hope that I would make enough money to leave my day job.

Now, 20 months later my hobby has turned in to a business and it is generating enough income from for me to happily go part time at work.

Should I decide to do this I’ll be taking the huge step from working on my business in my spare time to earn some extra money, to working half the week for myself. I will then be depending on the money from my own business to pay my mortgage and bills.

If I manage to achieve the same success working from home during the day as I have over the last year working a few hours here and there in my spare time I’ll be well on my way to becoming a full time home business entrepreneur.

I know this sounds fantastic, but what if something goes wrong? If I eventually work full time for myself I’ll be giving up a regular full time salary, not to mention company pension, sick pay and bonuses. For this reason I decided to ask myself a few questions. I’ve put together a list of 5 questions that you need to ask yourself before you leave your day job

1. Do you have a financial cushion? Before you give up your full time or part time job, make sure you have some money in the bank in case something goes wrong. Preferably you should make sure that you have no credit card debts or loans and have at least 3 months salary in the bank just to allow you to get back on your feet if the worst happens.

2. Are you making enough money? Sounds obvious, but remember to add up your current outgoings to see if your online income will cover everything. Remember to take into account tax payments and allow for the fact that you’ll no longer receive paid holidays, health insurance, sick pay and a company pension. If you have a big purchase coming up in the near future, such as a new house, you may want to postpone your full time online career until you’ve secured your mortgage.

3. Are your income streams diverse enough? Are you making all your money from one source? If you’re currently making all your money selling similar items on Ebay or earning an income from a small number of affiliate programs or making money from a single program such as Google Adsense, you could be putting yourself at risk. What if the market for the products you are selling disappears? The affiliate programs you are promoting shuts down? You need to take a close look at the sources of your income. Ideally your income should be coming from numerous sources e.g. selling your own products, promoting different affiliate programs, using multiple websites in different niches.

4. Do you have a business plan? Since you are considering taking such a big step you need to have a business plan. This should include a description of your company and the products and services you provide, the analysis of your market, strategy and implementation along with a financial plan.

5. How will you cope with working alone? If you enjoy working with other people every day, it’s likely that you may find the transition to working alone quite difficult. You should consider possible strategies to cope with this change. For example you may want to make sure that part of your business involves working with other people – perhaps providing a service locally or consulting. Perhaps you could fill the vacuum of not meeting people at work by joining a club or taking a part time training course. Making an effort to stay in touch and meet up with friends and former colleagues regularly will also help.

If you consider all these factors before quitting your day job, this should give you the best chance possible of becoming a successful full time internet marketer.
