On Friday 20th April 2012, my business partner Ken Troyer and I launched My Affiliate Power Site 2.0. The site is growing fast so far, with over 500 new members in the first 48 hours! We’ve been working on this site for almost six months and it has involved a lot of hard work, various programmers and many hurdles to jump through, so we are really excited to have finally launched the site.

In this blog post I’ll give you a quick review of My Affiliate Power Site 2.0 and answer some of the most common questions about it. If you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them below this post, or contact me on my helpdesk if you prefer.

What is My Affiliate Power Site ?

My Affiliate Power Site is two things:

1) A niche affiliate training site that teaches people how to build their own website in 7 days or less. Inside you will learn about how to choose a good niche, how to find affiliate products, how to register a domain name and setup hosting, how to install WordPress, create your website and make your first blog posts.

2) A powerful way to earn money. If you refer people to My Affiliate Power Site they can join as a free member and access the training. If they decide to upgrade to a paid membership you will receive a 50% commission (paid via Clickbank). The fact that My Affiliate Power Site is free to join makes it very attractive and you’ll find it easy to refer new members.

An Explanation of the Different Member Levels (Free, Silver and Gold)

Over the years we’ve realised the huge power of giving away something for FREE. For this reason we’ve made a free membership of My Affiliate Power Site available to everyone who wants it. For people who want more indepth training or want to take things to the next level we’ve also created some powerful upgrades and enhanced earning options. Here is an explanation of the different member levels and their costs:

FREE – A free membership allows you to access our written training on how to build your own niche website. It also lets you earn 50% commissions if you refer someone to My Affiliate Power Site and they purchase a SILVER or a GOLD membership.

SILVER – The Silver membership includes everything in the Free membership PLUS Video training. In the video training you will literally get to watch over Ken’s shoulder as he creates a website from scratch. This is great for people who are more visual and prefer to learn by watching other people. When you login to My Affiliate Power Site for the first time you’ll be offered a silver membership for a one time fee of $27.

GOLD – The Gold membership includes everything in the SILVER membership PLUS various ways to increase your earnings. If you are a Gold member you will be able to brand all the training lessons with your own affiliate IDs. This means that if you refer someone and they make a purchase of website hosting, a WordPress theme, a WordPress plugin, an internet marketing product or anything that we recommend in our training YOU will receive a commission of 50-75% for that purchase. You will also be able to add a banner of your choice to the member area. . The Gold member banners will be equally rotated and shown to members when they login and when they are following the training. The cost of a Gold membership is $47 then $17 per month if you bought the Silver membership, or $79 and $17 per month if you didn’t.

Can you Make Money if you Join for Free?

Yes – you can earn 50% commission on Silver and Gold Upgrades via Clickbank!

Is My Affiliate Power Site MLM?

No. MLM is when commissions are paid on more than one level. In My Affiliate Power Site the commissions are paid per sale on one level only.

What Happens if you were a Member of the old My Affiliate Power Site (version 1.0)

If you were a member of My Affiliate Power Site 1.o, before April 20th 2012, you will need to register with My Affiliate Power Site 2.0 here. You can join as a free or a paid member, it is entirely up to you.

Once you have signedup just follow the instructions inside to set up your profile and affiliate links. If you were an owner of one of the original MAPS websites you do not need a new website. Just download the following PDF guide to learn how to update your website for the new version:

MAPS 2.0 Upgrade Guide

If you were in the middle of following the website training you can also access this here:

MAPS 1.0 Website Training

If you are stuck, there is a free service on our helpdesk to upgrade you – just see the MAPS 2.0 upgrade guide for more details.

More about the Banner Advertising Feature

All Gold members get to add a banner to the system. Your banner can be for your own website, an affiliate product or a business opportunity – pretty much anything that you want to advertise, as long as it’s legal and clean

Your banner will be evenly rotated throughout the whole of the members area and on the login page. This means that it will be seen regularly by people who login and follow the training.

We’ve had over 500 new members in the last 48 hours and this continues to grow quickly, so your banners will get a LOT of exposure.

What to do if you missed the One Time Offer for the Silver/Gold Memberships (or were confused!)

If for some reason you didn’t see the offer for Silver or Gold, or you didn’t understand it at the time and want to see it again, just raise a ticket at the Power Group Support helpdesk and we’ll give you the link to look at it again.

What to do if you didn’t receive your confirmation email

When you register we send a confirmation email to you so that you can confirm your email address. This is just to prevent signing up the wrong people if you type in the wrong email address by mistake. If you can’t find that email have a check inside your Bulk or Spam folder as sometimes emails will go in there by mistake. If you still don’t get the email you can use our support desk (see the link above) and let us know your email address. We can then verify your account manually for you.

Bonus for Gold Members (worth $39.95)

For the month of April, if you register for My Affiliate Power Site and upgrade to a Gold member you will get 30 days of coaching at the Affiliate Power Group (APG) for free. If you are a member of APG already just raise a ticket at the Power Group Support helpdesk to claim your bonus and we’ll add 30 days to your account for free. If you are not a member already just register for the $1 10 day trial here and then raise a ticket. We’ll then extend your membership so that you’ll get a full 40 days trial instead of 10 days.

What are you waiting for?

If you have not had a look yet, I’d love it if you would take a minute to check out My Affiliate Power Site 2.0 and let me know what you think Also, please leave a comment below if you have any thoughts or questions!

Whether you are just getting started online, or if you’ve had your own website for a while now, creating your own product has many advantages. Here are a few of them:

#1 – You have the Potential for Higher Profits – instead of getting a commission for every sale you make, you can keep all of the money for yourself (minus any payment processing fees and overheads of course).

#2 – You can Build a List of Buyers – building a big list is one of the most important things you can do as an internet marketer. A list of buyers is a lot more valuable than a list of freebie seekers. If you have your own product you can add buyers to your list and make further profits down the line.

#3 – It is Easier to do Joint Ventures – if you have your own product you can approach other product owners and set up a joint venture agreement. This could involve a mailing to your list where you each promote each other’s products. Or it could include offering each other’s products on a thank you page.

#4 – You Can Utilize the Power of Affiliates – if you have your own product you can allow affiliates to promote your product for you and pay them a commission per sale. This is an excellent source of free targeted traffic and you only need to pay commissions when a sale is made. This is traffic that you wouldn’t normally have received so paying a 50% commission for each sale made is a small price to pay!

#5 – You Can Setup a Sales Funnel – you’ve probably bought a product before and seen an upsell or a one time offer to another product. You may not like this, but it is one of the best ways to increase your profits in internet marketing. Once you have one product you should aim to create another related product so that it can be used as an upsell. If you don’t do this you will be leaving money on the table.

#6 – Your Reputation will Improve – as a product creator you’ll have more respect from fellow marketers and customers alike.

#7 – You are in Full Control – affiliate programs can shut down, change their commission levels or do pretty much anything you like. If you have your own product you are completely in control and do not have to depend on a 3rd party to send your payments. You can also set the price that you want to, experiment with the sales copy and make any changes that you want to.

#8 – You have bonus material – if you are promoting affiliate products it often helps to provide a bonus for anyone who decides to purchase the affiliate product through your link. As a product owner, you have an advantage here as you can offer something that you normally sell and this will usually have a higher perceived value than an MRR or PLR product offered as a bonus.

So hopefully this gives you a few ideas of the advantages of creating your own product. Creating a product can be hard work and also pretty daunting if you are doing it for the first time, but the sense of achievements and the benefits of doing this outweight the time and effort.

If you are not sure where to begin take a look at my tips on how to create your own product. This explains the different options availab le to you and covers all the different aspects that you need to consider to get your product created and on sale. If you don’t have the time or the knowledge to do this, I also have some options for outsourcing product creation or for buying the rights to a product that has already been created.

If you have any comments or can think of any more advantages to creating your own product please feel free to post a comment below.

I have to say, that one of my biggest pet peeves in internet marketing is when someone decides to copy my website. This has happened to me more than twenty times over the last 7 years for this website and is very annoying.

The more popular your website is, the more likely people are to copy it.

Sometimes it is completely innocent and is just a newbie who is trying to be successful and doesn’t realise that it is wrong. At other times it can be done by someone who should really know better. This post is part rant, but hopefully will be helpful too, as I’ve also listed some information about how to deal with this problem if it happens to you.

Here is why you should never copy any part of someone’s website without their permission:

a) It is stealing!

b) If you want to be successful you need to create your own unique content. A lot of duplicate content is filtered by the search engines so you will probably find that you won’t rank for any keywords in the search engines if you just copy content from elsewhere.

If you can’t or don’t have time to create your own content, then hire a ghostwriter to do it for you.

Here is a little guide on what to do if someone copies your website. This year so far I’ve managed to get 4 peoples’ websites shut down as a result of plagarism. One person had actually copied my entire site and replaced all my product and affiliate links with his own links.

Step 1 – Contact the Website Owner – The first thing you need to do is contact the owner of the website. Most websites should have a contact page with an email address or a form on it, but if they don’t you can go to Whois.sc and enter the domain name. This will tell you the contact email address along with other useful information such as where the site is hosted (which you may well need if the person doesn’t respond to you).

Send them a polite email informing them that they are infringing your content and ask them to remove the infringing content from their website. Ask them to remove it as soon as possible and reply back when they have done this. You may then want to wait a week and send a second email if you don’t hear back from them. Sometimes people will remove the content and get back to you, but most often they will ignore you and either remove the content or keep it there. If this happens you need to proceed to step 2 below.

Step 2 - Contact the Website Host – if the website in question does not remove the plagiarised content, the next step is to contact their host. You can easily find their host by checking the Whois site mentioned above. Most website hosts have a ticket system and you can use this to submit a ticket to let them know that someone using their hosting service is infringing copyright. Let them know your contact information, the name of your site, the name of the infringing site and tell them that you have made efforts to contact the website owner.

I have found that most website hosts that I have contacted for this reason have been very responsive. A good hosting company does not want to risk legal action being taken as a result of copyright infringement. In some cases you will have to submit something called a DMCA notice, which stands for Digital Millenium Copyright Act notice. If you need help generating one of these there is a handy DMCA notice generator here. In many cases a hosting company will accept a digital signature (i.e. you typing your name as a signature to the form and emailing it to them), but in other cases you may need to fax the notice with a real signature or send it via postal mail.

Hopefully you will have success with either step 1 or step 2 above and the content will be removed quite quickly. If this doesn’t happen the only other choices you have are to take legal action, or to modify some of your own content so that it is different from the infringing website’s content. Sadly, sometimes the latter is the best option because legal action is both expensive and time consuming.

If you want to check whether or not your website has been copied, the easiest way to do this is to go to Copyscape and enter the URL of your site. You can do this check once a month or so to keep on top of people who are trying to copy your site.

What do you think? Has someone ever copied your website before? How did you deal with it? Did you have a successful outcome?

Wholesale buying is a critical part of selling products on eBay, your own website or any online marketplace. However, it’s also a task that stops many retailers in their tracks, because for the inexperienced retailer, wholesale buying can be risky.

To help keep you and your money safe, here is a quick-guide for safe wholesale buying.

Run a background check on suppliers

If you are like most online retailers, when you decide on a product you want to sell, you will start Googling your way to finding the right supplier who stocks the product and can sell it to you at the right price.

While Google searches can be a fantastic way to find suppliers, it can also expose you to a lot of crooks who are posing as suppliers, but who are actually scammers ready to take your money and run. Here’s what you need to do to avoid this:

Review the supplier’s contact information

Generally, the more contact information they give and the more options for contact they provide you (phone, email, physical address), the more you can trust them. If they only list an email address, consider it a sign that the supplier may not be trustworthy. If the email address is a Hotmail or Gmail address, this is another sign that the supplier is not the real deal.

Before you place an order, call, or at least email, the supplier to introduce yourself. While it’s a nice touch to speak with your supplier before you do business with them, it will also give you an opportunity to see how long they take to reply to emails and/or how courteous they are on the phone.

HOT TIP! If the supplier does list a physical address, copy and paste the address into Google Maps and check that the address actually exists. Take a look at the Street View and see if the area is a commercial one. If you see a residential home, it might be another sign that they supplier is not legitimate. I will add a caution here that many legitimate wholesalers do operate out of their home garages, so don’t write off a supplier completely if you don’t see a large warehouse!

Know when a deal is too good to be true

A common wholesale scam occurs when so-called “wholesale suppliers” advertise hot selling items like iPads, mobile phones and laptops at extremely low prices that are, quite literally, too good to be true.

While it is a nice thought you can purchase wholesale Mac laptops for $147 and resell them for $900, this simply isn’t the case. When start to learn the basics about wholesale buying, you will find that most wholesale items sell for around 5-30% less than the retail price, depending on how much you purchase.

In short, if a deal seems too good to be true, it most likely is.

Avoid fakes, replicas or counterfeits

Replicas of designer or branded items are illegal to produce and sell. Try selling these on eBay and your account will get closed down pretty fast. Try importing them in from China, where the majority are produced, and you might get a call from the local customs authority.

While it can be tempting to go down the route of selling replica items which can sell like hotcakes at good prices, doing so is dangerous and can present consequences ranging from the aforementioned eBay account closure, to fines from customs, to prosecution by the brand owner.

Forecast your potential profits before you buy

An essential part of market research is determining how much profit you will potentially make on each sale. In order to determine whether a product is viable or not, you must calculate the cost of the individual item, the cost of shipping the items to your home or warehouse and the cost of selling the item (web hosting fees, marketplace fees, PayPal fees, etc.).

Too many retailers simply make a decision on a product based on a wholesaler’s price per unit and do not calculate to associated costs of selling an item. In doing so, you can easily miscalculate your margins and wind up losing money on each sale you make.

While there is a lot to keep in mind when you are buying wholesale items, the benefits for your business are plentiful. Just make sure you keep this quick-guide handy for next time you go looking for a supplier!

One of the best ways to get started in online business is by writing for other people, often referred to as ghostwriting. When you ghostwrite for someone you are allowing them to take full ownership of the content that you created and put their name on it as the author. In return you’ll receive a fee for your writing.

Ghostwriting can be something as simple as writing short articles or blog posts for someone else, or it can be as extensive as writing a whole book! Possible earnings can range from a few dollars to thousands of dollars depending on your experience.

Below you’ll find a Ghostwriting Cash review, a product created by Tiffany Dow & Craig Desorcy. I own this product and I’ve thoroughly checked it out, so you can be sure you will get a good idea of whether this is right for you or not!

What is Ghostwriting Cash?

Ghostwriting Cash is a training course that teaches you how you can get started making money writing from home. It caters for complete beginners, but also covers how you can take your writing business to the next level, so if you are already making money from writing this course will give you some great ideas on how to increase your income.

The course is in the format of PDFs and videos. Everything is downloadable so once you complete your order you’ll be taken to a download page where you can instantly save everything to your computer.

What Do You Get?

The Ghostwriting Cash course consists of the following downloads:

A 46 page PDF Guide by Tiffany Dow – this covers all the perks of ghostwriting (some which you may not have considered), the skills you need to become a ghostwriter, how to get started bidding for jobs, a list of all the hot places to get ghostwriting jobs, strategic ways to beat your competitors, plus how to price your work and what you should do if you are brand new and desparate!

I really enjoyed reading this PDF – it is full of valuable information about ghostwriting and there are lots of interesting examples througout the book, so it doesn’t feel like a chore to read through. Tiffany even shares some example bids that won her real ghostwriting jobs.

Two Audios from Greg Desorcy – The first audio is an interview with Greg Desorcy, the co-creator of Ghostwriting Cash. In the interview Greg explains how he got started with ghostwriting and progressed to working full time from home. He also provides tips on how to get started. The second audio is called the “wow factor formula” and explains how you can get more repeat customers.

10 Videos – there are 10 videos that explain how you can take your ghostwriting business to the next level by creating a website. The videos assume no prior knowledge and walk you through all the basics of setting up a simple site that you can use to gain more business.

Overall the quality of this course is top notch and if you are remotely interested in earning a living rom writing you should enjoy this.

Can I Make Money with Ghostwriting Cash?

I’ve never done ghostwriting for a living myself, but I do regularly hire people to ghostwrite for a few of my niche websites, so I know for a fact that it works and you can make money from this. I use some of the websites that Tiffany recommends, but as an employer rather than a writer and I am always amazed at the sheer amount of work available on these sites. If you are new to writing, you may find it a little scary to find work on these sites, but the Ghostwriting Cash guide will take away a lot of that fear by explaining to you what you should and shouldn’t do.

The great thing about writing is that unlike many business opportunities you don’t have to wait for weeks or months to receive your first payment.

Do I need to be an experienced writer or have writing qualifications?

Absolutely not! You certainly don’t need a college degree to do this – high school level writing skills are just fine. Typically your writing will be read by people who are browsing the internet, so it is better if it is simple and easy to understand.

How to Get the Ghostwriting Cash Course

To get this course for yourself just visit the Ghostwriting Cash website. If you are unsure about it, I recommend taking the time to watch the video on the main page.

Bonus for Ghostwriting Cash – Kindle Training eBook & Kindle Generator

If you do decide to buy Ghostwriting Cash, if you use this link I will receive a commission. In return I’d reward you with a nice bonus.

Publishing an eBook on kindle is another way to make money from writing, so I thought that this bonus would compliment Ghostwriting Cash perfectly.

Today I’m going to talk a little bit about why it is so important to create multiple streams of income if you have an internet business.

I’ve been doing internet marketing since 2004 and I’ve found that time and time again I’ve felt glad that I have more than one stream of online income.

By a different stream of income I am talking about different websites, different products, different sources of traffic and more. In the online business world nothing is ever guaranteed so you need to make sure that you have a backup plan just in case.

Here are a few examples of things that can go wrong. I’ve experienced some of these things myself or seen other people experience some of these things.

The affiliate program or business opportunity that you have been promoting closes down

Your website’s position in Google drops and you start to receive less and less traffic

The hot niche that you were earning lots of money in suddenly becomes not so hot

Your product becomes out of date and is no longer in demand

Some amazing marketing techniques that you were using stop working

It all sounds a bit depressing, but it is a reality that things are always changing in internet marketing and you need to anticipate this by ensuring that you create multiple streams of income. Don’t ever rely on one website, or one affiliate program or one source of traffic for your income. If you have one amazing website that gets 90% of its traffic from Google, what happens if one day you stop getting that traffic?

I currently have around twently websites in at least 10 different niches so I feel happy knowing that I am not relying on one single niche for my income. I also have a few of my own products and promote more than 40 different affiliate products over my websites, so I don’t feel worried that my income is coming from one place. What you need to ask yourself, is “would I survive without this particular website” or “would I survive if the income for this product went away?” If the answer to either of these questions is no, you may want to consider creating an additional income stream or two.

The one exception to this rule is if you are a newbie to internet marketing. If you have never made a dime online before there is no point in duplicating something that you have not yet been successful with. For example if you have built a website it is better to focus on that site and get it into profit first before you start building another. When you start out it is common to make mistakes and learn from them over time and it is better to focus on the one thing during that period of time. Once you’ve made a success of it, you can then go on to start your second project and repeat this. Here are a few ideas of different ways to make money.

Feel free to let me know below if you have any comments or questions and let me know what have you done to create multiple streams of income yourself.

I decided that since we are a month into 2012, it was time to make a post about the top business ideas for 2012. If you are looking to start a home business on the internet you may want to start with one of the following ideas. Everthing below is low cost or free to get started with and has the potential to provide you with a full time income. The business idea you choose is really dependent on you, your interests, your experience and your budget, so be sure to consider this when making your decision.

Best Business Ideas 2012

#1 – Niche Affiliate Marketing
Niche affiliate marketing is how I made most of my income in 2011 and it involves finding a good profitable niche that you are interested in, some high quality products that pay high commissions and building a website related to your niche. Once you have set up a website, most of the work involved here is in getting traffic to your site. If you put the work in upfront, this type of business can provide you with a lot of income for very little work. For example, one of my niche websites makes over $2000 per month in commissions and I put in around 1-2 hours of work per week on that site. I had to work very hard on that site for the first 6 months, but now the site is very close to being a passive income stream. If you like the idea of starting your own niche site, I can help you and coach you with this at the Affiliate Power Group.

#2 – Your Own Information Product
This is slighly more advanced than affiliate marketing as you have to be able to create a product and setup an online selling system, however, you may be surprised to learn that it is not as difficult as you might think. Again, there is a good amount of work up front to get this going, but once you have done this the amount of effort you need to put in will reduce significantly. The costs are also very low as you are creating a digital downloadable product such as an EBook so there are no manufacturing costs involved. If you want to learn how to do this, I highly recommend taking a look at Lee McIntyre’s Instant Internet Lifestyle training course. This is a seminar that originally cost people almost $1000 to attend, but he provides the videos for this full seminar for less than $20.

#3 – Freelancing
It can take a few months to get a website into a state where it is getting regular visitors and making sales. If you need money NOW, then freelancing is a great way to go. With freelancing you can start earning money from home within a few days or weeks. Types of jobs that you can do include writing articles, proof reading, translation, graphic design, virtual assistance, backlink building and more. There are lots of freelancing websites that you can join for free and start browsing jobs.

#4 – Multi Level Marketing
MLM isn’t for everyone, and is often given a bad name as there are a lot of poor MLM programs on the internet that charge high fees and don’t deliver much in the way of a product. However, on the plus side there are a lot of quality MLM programs and if you like working in a team rather than alone it can be a great way to earn money, while getting help and support from your upline. If you want to try this for free SFI is a good one and this is how I started my online business back in 2004. If you prefer a higher paying company, then MyWorldPlus is a great choice. You can read my review of MyWorldPlus here.

#5 – Google Adsense Websites
This is very similar to niche affiliate marketing, but instead of advertising products on your website, you put Google Adsense on your site instead. The ads displayed on your site will automatically be related to the topic of your site and you’ll earn money every time a visitor clicks on one of your ads. The great thing about this is that you get paid without making sales. Google Adsense is free to join, but you will need your own website before you apply. The 100K Adsense Blueprint is a good guide to makeing money with Adsense.

Hopefully these best business ideas for 2012 will give you a few suggestions for starting a new home business this year. If you have any questions please feel free to leave a comment in the box below or send me a question using the contact link on the menu above.

I love WordPress and always recommend that people use WordPress when creating a website or blog, but one thing that most people struggle with is how to choose a WordPress theme. There are so many theme choices available that you can easily spend days searching for the right one for you and end up feeling more confused than you were when you started! In this post I’ll give you a few points to consider before choosing a WordPress theme. Read these first and you’ll find it much easier to choose your theme!

1) What Does the Theme Look Like? This a very obvious question, but probably one of the most important for you when deciding how to choose a WordPress theme. The majority of people want their website to be professional looking and attractive, so this has to be one of the main considerations when you choose a theme. Have a think about the impression that you want your site to portray to others. Should it look business like and professional? Or informal and fun? Or perhaps sleek and flashy? The answer to this is going to be dependent on the type of people that you are trying to attract.

2) Is the Theme Compatible with all Browsers? Not everyone uses the same browser as you, so it is important to consider what the theme looks like in other browsers. At a minimum consider looking at a demo of your potential theme choices in Firefox, Internet Explorer and Chrome. You may find that it looks different in one of these browsers.

3) Is the Theme Widget Ready? The majority of website owners like to add things to the side bar of their website. For example an opt-in box, some banners, a list of recent posts or some links. Before you decide on a theme make sure that it supports widgets and find out where the widgets can be added.

4) Does the Theme Support adding Banner Ads or Google Adsense? Do you intend to add banners or Google Adsense to your site? If so, consider where on the site you would like these positioned. Does the theme support the addition of a banner or an ad in the sidebar? Footer? Header area?

5) Is the Theme Search Engine Friendly? Clean code and fast loading graphics are just some of the things that you may want to consider. Some themes also have built in SEO features, but if not there are excellent SEO plugins available such as the Platinum SEO plugin.

6) Has the Theme been overused? If a theme is very popular, particularly in the market that you are in, it could look a little bit tired. In this case you may either want to consider a newer, fresher theme, or customize the theme with a new header and layout to make it look more unique.

7) Is the theme Easy to Customize? Most people want to modify their theme to make it their own. For example you may want to add a custom header, change the font size and colors, move the sidebars or create menus. Does the theme make it easy for you to do this, or will you have to go digging into the theme’s PHP code?

8 ) Do the theme owners provide support? Most professional theme owners will provide some sort of support, either included with the purchase or as an add on option. For free themes you may be able to get some support, or you may find that you are on your own. If you think you will need some help customizing your theme or troubleshooting problems when they crop up you may want to consider choosing a theme that provides support.

9) Are there any Reviews? Before you decide on a specific WordPress theme it is worth searching for some reviews on that theme first. You should be able to find some reviews on Google to help you understand the pros and cons of a particular theme before making that all important decision.

10) Should you use a Professional or Free Theme? The answer to this question is going to depend largely on your budget, but if you are serious about building your business you may want to consider investing in a professional theme. A professional theme is more likely to be kept up to date and you are more likely to get support. Professional themes are often coded much better and come with lost of additional features that make your theme so much easier to customize.

If you are an internet marketer, I recommend the Socrates theme. This theme is designed especially for internet marketers and it is very easy to customize with products in the header, footer and sidebars. You have lots of different layout choices with this theme and the ability to choose from hundreds of pre made headers.

Hopefully these 10 points will give you more insight on how to choose a WordPress theme, but please feel free to comment if you have any questions or suggestions of your own!

Make sure you don’t make any of the 10 home business mistakes listed below and you will be off to a good start!

Mistake #1 – Picking the wrong product or offer. Many people tend to pick the wrong product or service to offer. This, of course, causes the downfall of the business. Do your research before deciding on what services or products to specialize in. Make a list of pros and cons and keep in mind things such as the cost of start up, materials and expertise needed, as well as, the yearly income you can expect.

Mistake #2 – Selling products that nobody needs. Research the market backing your products and services. Compare which one has more need and a wider audience. Don’t sell products that no one needs or there is only a small group of people that it would interest. Pick a product or service that is needed by a wide range of people.

Mistake #3 – Overspending. Spending too much, more than your budget allows, to start your business is a very common home business mistake. You are not leaving any room for error or any money to compromise your business plan if the need arises. Spend what is needed, but don’t buy the most expensive products and plans to start your business. Design basic layouts that are cost effective, sign a web hosting plan that isn’t budget draining and sell products that you purchased at a wholesale value or below market value.

Mistake #4 – Not Spending Enough. Don’t spend too little on starting up your business. Remember, the money you put in should be coming back to you within a few months. Spend what you need in order to start your business. Consider that all of this is tax deductible, so you have no excuse not to buy everything you need for the business. Purchase all of the products you will sell, the packaging materials, website domains and other services before starting your business.

Mistake #5 – Not doing your paperwork. Keeping records of your initial start up costs and your sales is not only important for your records, but also for tax season. Many things that you purchased in order to start your business are tax deductible, but only if you keep receipts and paperwork filed properly. Whatever you sell, you should also keep a file of. Much like when you purchase something from a store; they give you a receipt because that is important to keep on hand when proving income or filing for taxes.

Mistake #6 – Not charging enough. Charge enough for your products and services, but not to the point of making your customers feel that your prices aren’t fair or competitive. Calculate what each product costs for you to acquire or make and the time you spend making or buying it. That should give you a range of what you should be charging for your products. Be fair in your prices, but be fair to yourself as well. Don’t charge a lot less just to get customers to buy from you. If you charge what you should, chances are that eventually you will build a good customer base.

Mistake #7 – Pricing your products too high. Don’t price your product out of the market. Products should be priced keeping many factors in mind. First thing to focus on is researching what other companies are charging for similar products or services. You don’t obviously have to charge the same amount, but calculate an average price based on many successful companies’ pricing. This can help you achieve a price range that is fair and favorable to the market.

Mistake #8 – Poor website design. Having a website that is not user-friendly can greatly impact the amount of sales you make or don’t make. Websites that rely too much on flash or JavaScript can scare away customers. When developing your website, make sure that it is easy to load for all web browser versions, operating systems and internet connections. It may be hard to believe, but some people still rely on dial-up internet connections or use the internet on their smartphones. Remember this when designing your website in order to make it user-friendly and comprehensive.

Mistake #9 – Not giving it enough time. One of the home business mistakes that I see most frequently is people giving up before they’ve given it a chance to work. All businesses take time to grow and make money and it is entirely possible that you may not make a profit at first. The key is not to give up at this stage Persevere and learn from your mistakes.

Mistake #10 – Not doing something you enjoy. Not listening to your gut feelings can really damage a business. Don’t partake in something that you don’t believe in. Many people start a business because everyone else is doing the same thing, but remember this is you and not everyone else. The business you start should be something you are knowledgeable about and love doing. You can still make money in a business that you started because you loved it. Keep that in mind when choosing your business path.

Keep the home business mistakes above in mind when you start your home business and remember that success truly relies on research and it can make or break your business within the first few initial start-up months.
