Can you Make Money with Affiliate Programs Without Selling?

Do you want to make money from affiliate programs, but don't like the idea of selling? If so, you are not alone - this is a common apprehension from people who are thinking of making money online from affiliate marketing.

However, there are people who make a lot of money online in affiliate marketing and they never sell a product.

In this post I will explain a few options for making money from affiliate programs without selling.

1. Cost Per Action Programs. There are thousands of affiliate marketers earning seven figure incomes in cost per action programs. These used to be referred to as pay per lead programs because the specific action you required your visitor to do was fill out a short lead form.

To refer people to this sort of program, you do not need to sell as they are not purchasing anything (at least initially). You simply direct them to the cost per action program where they will do something like complete a short form, or opt in to receive some software or perhaps a report.

Every time a visitor you refer takes the required action you will earn a commission. Typically the commission are higher than a pay per click commission would be, but still easier to make money on than asking your visitor to actually make a purchase.

2. Two-tier affiliate programs are another way to make money without selling anything yourself. Instead you refer people to join a free affiliate program and you earn money whenever they make a sale. If you like working with people, and training them, this is a good way to get paid on the efforts of others as an affiliate marketer.

3. Contextual advertising programs such as Google Adsense. You have probably seen Google ads on people's websites.

Every time a visitor clicks on one of these ads the website owner will earn money, regardless of whether the visitor actually goes on to purchase something. This could be anywhere from a few pennies per click, to several dollars per click, depending on the market.

Google pays out hundreds of millions of dollars in commissions just on this type of affiliate marketing. This is an easy way to make money as an affiliate because you are not asking your visitors to make a purchase.

Affiliate marketers who make the most money doing these types of programs generally develop large content sites with hundreds or thousands of pages with ads on them or create lots of smaller niche websites. Then they work at driving traffic to these sites and treat Internet marketing as a numbers game.

These were just three examples of how to make money with affiliate programs without selling. All three of these methods do not require you to sell anything, and you can earn a supplemental income or full-time living doing them over time.

I don't know if you have ever tried to find an internet marketing virtual assistant before, but it can be stressful trying to find someone who can do the job right, is reliable and also affordable.

Recently I came across an internet marketing virtual assistant company called Burn Your To Do List who can help you with a wide variety of internet marketing tasks including:

Writing articles
Building backlinks
Commenting on blogs for backlinks
Adding Twitter Followers
Manual directory submission
Social Bookmarking
Writing an article and adding it to your blog
Writing a press release

What is Stopping You From Achieving Greater Affiliate Marketing Success?

There are many reasons why people do not reach the affiliate marketing success level they expect. There also aren't many people who don't wish that they'd done some things differently in their business.

The key is to understand what's holding you back or the mistakes you made and then overcome them. The best way to learn is from mistakes but often you don't have much time to lose.

With affiliate marketing there are a myriad of mistakes that many people make:

They never build their own list of customers This critical mistake is what limits them from developing and maintaining a list of future buyers.

They don't backlink promotions to their own website or landing page. Instead they link directly to the affiliate program. This stops them from ever knowing how many potential customers they touched and even more importantly, who they were.

They fail to build the all-important relationship before attempting to sell. Affiliate marketing 101 (and salesmanship 101) states that you really have to present yourself as more than just someone trying to make a sale.

They don't diversify their products or networks. Don't put all your eggs in the one basket. Within your own niche you should offer a variety of items that encourage people to build relationships with you and also solve their needs. Think back to any door-to-door salesperson that you ended up buying from in the past. If they solved a problem for you were you more likely to purchase the product? It is no different on the Internet with affiliate marketing.

People like to buy from someone who appears to have their customer's best interest at heart. If you can present yourself as an expert in your niche and someone that customer's can trust, you can gain those customers for life.

They fail to keep in touch continuously with the customers. With so many options on the internet you can't expect customers to automatically come to you. You have to make it easy for them to buy from you.

That is why one of the top ways to become a successful affiliate marketer is to constantly promote to your list via an auto responder. Setting up an email marketing campaign through a autoresponder is the best way to keep in touch with your customers for future sales.

Summary - This EBook is a great introduction to building your list using JV Giveaway Events. It is 32 pages long and covers everything from list building basics, to creating lead capture pages, thank you pages and download pages, registering for your first giveaway event, how to submit your gift and whether or not it is worth upgrading in these events or not.

The book is easy to read and doesn't require any detailed knowledge of internet marketing to understand.

The author starts by explaining what a JV Giveaway event is and what the benefits are, then goes on to discuss how to choose a giveaway event to join and the benefits of joining early versus joining later. For the benefit of those people who don't have a gift to giveaway he then goes on to cover how to get a gift and how to setup a good lead capture page and create thank you and download pages. Verdict - overall a very thorough book on JV Giveaways. It is targeted more at internet marketers who are new to giveaway events, but even if you have done a few events before, you will also benefit from some of the tips inside the book.

Build Your List with Free JV Giveaway Events

If there is one thing that I have learned in my years of marketing online (especially recently), it is the importance of building a list.

Whether you are new to online marketing or if you have been at it for a while, you should spend a good proportion of your time focusing on list building.

One of the best ways to build a list fast is by using JV Giveaway Events.

Giveaway events allow you to gain new subscribers to your list in exchange for offering a free gift such as an EBook or a report.

Every so often something comes along that takes the Internet by storm. Right now one of the hottest forms of social marketing is Twitter. Here are 5 reasons why you should be using Twitter to market your business.

1. Developing a large list of followers gives you a market that you might not otherwise have had. There are millions of members on Twitter right now that you can follow and hopefully gain as followers yourself.

The numbers alone suggest that marketing online this way will create traffic and potential business you might not have otherwise had. Politicians such as John McCain and President Obama already understand the advantage of Twitter and have hundreds of thousands of followers. This alone should tell you that the possibilities for your business are astronomical.

2. Starting conversations on Twitter is extremely easy to do. Every update you make is similar to a micro-blog post and is known as Tweeting. You can get instantaneous feedback and create conversations very quickly this way. This is where the social networking aspect really comes into play. You will meet people that you otherwise never would have known and develop personal relationships with them.

There is a strategy to doing this correctly. You do not want to constantly be promoting products and sound like you're advertising. Just as email marketing and discussion forums do not allow spamming neither does Twitter.

However by participating on a regular basis you can include product updates, useful information, blog posts, and so on to update your followers on what is going on with you. By doing it this way you avoid sounding like you're advertising and you can market as well.

3. You can generate interest in things that are going on in your business by asking questions. This allows you to get the conversation going and easily increase the number of updates you are making. Major corporations are finding they can generate interest for their products on Twitter and so can you as a small Internet business owner.

4. Marketing online can be expensive but not so with Twitter. This is free and the only cost to you is the time it takes to participate in it.

5. Not only is Twitter free, but it can aslo be fun. It can almost become addictive so you need to be conscious that you are not wasting your valuable time, but you are using it to benefit your business.

These were just 5 reasons for using Twitter to market your business. There are certainly many more but getting started and learning more about it will help you find out what those are.

Is it Possible to Generate Passive Income?

One of the things that many people are seeking online is a passive income. The question is is it really possible to generate income streams that are truly passive? If so, how do you go about doing this?

I've been working from home online full time now for nearly 3 whole years. My income is not fully passive, so I do have to actually put in a few hours every day in order to maintain my income.

However, I do have a number of income streams that are truly passive. If I were to go on vacation now for a year, I could still generate a decent portion of my income, without touching my computer.

So, how do you generate passive income?

The first thing you must have if you want to generate income automatically is your own website. Unfortunately it's not just a case of setting up a website and waiting for the money to pour out like a cash machine :-)

Once your website is up and running you need to monetize it with income streams e.g. Affiliate Products (preferably ones that offer at least 50% commission and a residual income) or Google Adsense or Business Opportunities. To improve conversions further you should also set up an autoresponders series and try to capture the email address of your visitors.

Once you have tested your website to ensure that it is profitable you need to be prepared to spend a lot of time over the following months building up traffic to your website. The best way to do this is by optimizing the pages on your site for popular keyword phrases and getting your site ranked in the search engines.

After time, you will find that the traffic is coming steadily to your website and you are generating passive income. Unfortunately the word "passive" for many people is confusing as it indicates that little or no work is required. To generate passive income on the internet you must put in the work initially and be prepared to work at it for many months before you can reap the rewards.

Top Business Ideas for 2010

If you are reading this post I'd like to wish you a Happy New Year and I hope you have a very prosperous, healthy and happy 2010!

It is very common in the new year for people to start something new and of course that includes new online businesses! January is one of the busiest and most popular months for starting a business online.

If you are thinking of starting a new business yourself, be sure to do some research first and ensure that you set yourself a monthy budget that you can afford and some goals for what you want to achieve in your new business.

Remember that like all businesses, an online business takes some time and effort before it becomes profitable. Make sure that you have realistic expectations e.g to build an income gradually over many months and years, not days and weeks. Also be sure to be consistent and spend time on your business on a regular basis. You will have a lot to learn so remember that it is normal to feel slightly overwhelmed at first. Just take your time and pace yourself.

Like many people you may be stuck for a business idea. For this reason I am going to reveal my TOP EARNERS of 2009! Below I have listed the 3 business ideas that made me the most money in 2009.

My TOP 3 Earners of 2009:

1) Affiliate Products - In 2009 I made the majority of my income from affiliate marketing. Affiliate products are free to promote and often pay 50% commission or higher per sale. You can join Clickbank for free and start promoting products straight away. If you want to earn big money from affiliate programs you must have your own website. Choose products that you trust and have preferably used yourself. For maximum income find products that pay a recurring commission (e.g. membership sites, hosting) and/or pay a high commission (e.g. 50%). If you are not sure where to start why not pick a ready made Clickbank website or signup for a $1 10 day trial with the Affiliate Power Group and let us help you build a site.

Cost - The cost of running a website is around $10 a year for the domain name and around $10 per month for hosting + some initial investment for setting up your site if you don't want to do it yourself.

2) Multi Level Marketing - MLM came a close second for me in 2009. Many people are put off MLM because they immediately think "pyramid". But MLM just means that you are paid on multiple levels. This means that you earn a percentage of your commissions from other peoples' efforts rather than just your own. As long as you sign up for a company who is reputable and has a solid product you don't have anything to worry about. My #1 MLM opportunity is My World Plus. As a member you will receive an excellent discount card + the opportunity to promote a product that pays very generous commissions and converts like nothing I have seen before. I earned over $6000 from MyWorldPlus over the last 4 months.

Cost - This depends on which program you join. My World Plus is $20 per month, but it is free to take a tour. My other recommendations are Empowerism and GDI.

3) My Own Products - selling your own information products can be a huge money maker. For me this took a bit of a backseat in 2009 as I was focusing on my own Affiliate Marketing websites and coaching over at the Affiliate Power Group. However my various products on Clickbank including 3 Steps to Search Engine Success continued to sell and provide me with a steady income. If you have a strong interest or a skill in a certain area you may want to consider creating your own information product. It is not as hard as it sounds and you can easily outsource some of the work that you don't want to do yourself (e.g. graphics, sales copy, or even writing). I created my first information product (a travel EBook) back in 2005 with the help of the Internet Marketing Center.

Cost - You have your website costs of $10 for a domain name and around $10 a month for hosting plus the costs of developing the product and your website which can vary depending on how much you do yourself.

When you have an online business, one of the most important things you can do is learn how to build an optin in email list. It is not as hard to do as some people think it is. You just need to know how to build a mailing list effectively.

Here are the most important steps that you need to take to build your mailing list:

1. Find a Valuable Freebie to Offer Your Subscribers – If you are going to capture the name and email addresses of visitors, you should offer them something for free, but be sure it is something of value. The first step is to find the free item that you will be giving away and ensure that it is something people will want. It can be a report, software, free business tools or anything else that they would willingly give you their information for.

2. Build a Squeeze page or lead capture page – The next step is to build a lead capture page or squeeze page. This is just a simple page where you offer the freebie, provide the reasons it is a good idea for them to sign up for your newsletter and then put a capture form from any auto-responder on the site. Here is an example of a lead capture page.

3. Create a Newsletter – You need to sign up for an autoresponder account such as GetResponse and start setting up a newsletter or ezine. It doesn’t have to be complicated, but again, provide free articles, resources, videos and many other things that people will want. This will encourage them to stay on your email list after they have received the freebie offered to get them there. Send out a newsletter once a week, every two weeks or even monthly to keep in contact with the people on your list.

4. Market Your Squeeze Page – This is a vital step to take once you have done the other steps. If people don’t know about your squeeze page, they will never sign up. You have to market your page, just like you do your online business. This is the only way to get people to sign up and the more ways you use to market, the faster you will build your list

7 Reasons I Love Being an Affiliate Marketer

The majority of people don't love their job, and I fell into that category myself just a few years ago.

Today I was thinking about how great it was to be a work from home affiliate marketer and how lucky I am not to have to drag myself into an office to do a job that I don't particularly enjoy.

So I have put together a few reasons why I LOVE working from home full time as an affiliate marketer. Hopefully this will inspire you if you are aiming to start or grow your own home business.

1) You don't have to get up too early in the morning - not everyone is a morning person and when I worked full time in an office I found it a struggle to jump out of bed at 7am, especially in the cold dark months of winter. Now that I work for myself I can set the alarm just that little bit later and if I don't feel like getting up, there is always the option of the snooze button.
