Are you Tracking Your Ads?

If you're not tracking your ads, then you'll find it difficult to understand which methods of advertising are successful. This means that you could end up throwing more money into that advertising black hole and end up with no return for your investment.

If you are submitting an article to an article directory or adding a link to your website to your signature in a forum I don't recommend using a tracking link as you will lose the advantage of increasing the number of backlinks to your site.

However if you are using ezine ads, solo ads, pay per click ads or classifieds, it makes sense to use a unique tracking link. This can save you lots of money in the long run.

If you are looking for a free ad tracker I recommend TrackThatAd - this is completely free to use.

Another tool that I highly recommend just to get a general feeling of what the visitors to your website are doing is StatCounter. This tool will let you see how many visitors you have, which websites they were referred from, the keywords that they used if they visited from a search engine, which countries your visitors are from, how long they stayed on your site and much more. All you need to do is copy and paste a small bit of javascript code onto each page on your site.
